About Us
Our history begins in 1895, when the building was constructed to house the burgeoning corporate empire of Cone Mills Export Commissions. Cone Mills occupied the space until 1903, when the United States Postal Service made it their local headquarters. A benchmark of luxury from the beginning, our building was the first in town to feature indoor plumbing, electricity, and an unmanned elevator.
First becoming a hotel in 1923, the Greensboro Hotel, as it was originally named, offered private rooms with a daily bath for $2.00 a day. Many great parties and events were held at the Greensboro Hotel. It was a local landmark for almost 25 years, until it was closed due to fire in the mid 1960’s.
Opening again in the late 1960’s as the Greenwich Inn, a new face was brought to the building by renowned interior designer Otto Zenke. Zenke modeled the hotel after an English hunt club, and decorated the lobby as an old world drawing-room with walnut paneling and traditional hunt scenes.
The hotel changed ownership once again in 1992, and was renamed the Biltmore Greensboro Hotel. Today, we pride ourselves as a fine boutique establishment, offering old world charm accentuated by the modern amenities you would find at any hotel of distinction. Under new ownership since October 2007, we look forward to continuing to provide memorable experiences for all of our guests.
